The One
Hello. My name is Joel, and I’m a writer, web dev, and terrible sleeper. If you’re reading this then it’s probably because you clicked over here by accident, but hey, why waste a good opportunity?
I used to run a site on the dark web. Usually, on the surface web, you have to behave yourself to some extent, and I’ll try to keep that in mind.
I once worked for websites as a writer, but trust me, it does nothing for your career to be associated with them. It was like working at McDonalds or something - not great work if you want to get ahead, or if you just, you know, have any self-respect. When you work for a website, you’re making a name for that website, not for yourself, and even though all your work is credited to you, hardly anyone knows who you are anyway. You become known as “that guy from that website”. And although I won’t name any names, I will say that I had pretty bad experiences with a couple of them, being expected to work a ridiculous amount of time writing articles which were never published. Seriously, the editors would change their minds nightly. They’d ask for an article one day, the next they’d tell me to scrap everything I wrote because they didn’t want it anymore.
Anyway, I decided to take my life into my own hands and start doing things myself. That way, I could set my own hours and write whatever I wanted without having to answer to anybody else. Then I started building sites for people, cultivating my long-developed knowledge of web development and design while also learning new skills along the way. As a result, I feel much happier now than when I was working for someone else.
Nowadays, I mostly do freelance web stuff: custom designs, development projects, copywriting etc. I’m also interested in philosophy and religion (my favourite subjects). Most of my writings about religion have been all about refuting arguments for God’s existence. For me, there can be nothing worse than believing in something that’s blatantly false.
But I’m also not one of those people who thinks science will one day explain everything. Science doesn’t give us answers; it gives us more questions. It can explain the how, but it can’t explain the why. To understand the world around us we need to look beyond our limited perceptions and beyond ridiculous ideas of faith which only serve to sucker people into believing insane things. We should think critically, not blindly accept what other people tell us. This blog exists so I can share my thoughts on various topics. There’s no agenda behind these posts except that I enjoy writing them. Who knows? Maybe you’ll learn a thing or two.✌️👌
